The Design Concept:
From time to time, large
marine species wash upon the shores of Newfoundland. There are many secluded beaches that are
treasure chests of opportunities…. One just has to be a bit of an explorer.
A shark was found
washed ashore a few years ago. Not by me but a friend of mine. I saw the shark tail in his
studio. The tail was dried and curled over with a skin pattern that was so interesting.
I brought the shark tail home.
There I studied the surface and made several impressions.
I wanted to capture the essence of the tail's surface texture... where the ripples were. After I
made my selection, a master impression of the skin was made of the area and forged into my second in a series of natural
texture impression barrettes. The second picture shows the area that I selected... Just click on the picture.
The master impression was then cast and replicated in pewter to produce this
design. The details are 100 percent natural and the Pewter will last forever…
